James Berman

James Berman is a partner with Zeisler & Zeisler, P.C. in Bridgeport, Conn., where he focuses his practice in business reorganization, bankruptcy and insolvency. During his more than 30 years of experience, he has represented a wide array of parties in workouts and bankruptcy proceed- ings. These include public and private companies, creditors' committees, buyers and sellers of as- sets, investors, and high-net-worth individuals. Mr. Berman is currently representing the following debtors in chapter 11 bankruptcy cases: Derecktor Shipyards, LLC, The Fletcher-Terry Company,         Pratt-Read Corp., Technipower Systems, Inc., the SageCrest hedge funds and Halo Technologies. He also recently represented Waterworks Inc. and the creditors' committees in the bankruptcy cases of Johnson Memorial Hospital and the Marathon group of nursing homes. Mr. Berman also serves as an independent fiduciary in the investigation and pursuit of recoveries for investors and other victims of fraud. He is currently the chapter 7 trustee for the bankruptcy estates of the Michael Goldberg Ponzi scheme. Previously, Mr. Berman was the law clerk to Hon. Alan H.W. Shiff, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Connecticut. He is a past chairman of the Connecticut Bar As- sociation's Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section, served as counsel to the Committee for Revi- sion of Connecticut Bankruptcy Rules and has been a frequent lecturer for ABI and other groups. Mr. Berman has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America for Bankruptcy and Creditor/Debtor Rights from 2001-15 and for Litigation - Bankruptcy from 2014-15) and in Con- necticut Super Lawyers for several consecutive years. Additionally, he was named as the "Stamford Best Lawyers Litigation - Bankruptcy Lawyer of the Year" for 2013 and "Stamford Best Lawyers Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law Lawyer of the Year" for 2015. Mr. Berman received his B.A. in 1977 from Yale University and his J.D. in 1981 from the University of Connecticut Law School.
