Melissa Scott
Melissa Scott is director of Advisory Services at Change Healthcare, formerly Altegra Health/Sinaiko Healthcare Consulting, in Nashville, Tenn. She leads a team providing advisory services for entities ranging from clinical laboratories, physicians and health systems to health plans, special investigation units and law firms. Her specialties include forensic analytics, litigation support, internal audit and enterprise risk management, compliance programs, revenue cycle, and government mandated claims & arrangements reviews. Ms. Scott authored a monthly column featured in Advance for Medical Laboratory Professionals as “Dear Labby,” which provided advice related to laboratory billing compliance, and she has been a featured speaker for the National Health Care Antifraud Association regarding identification of fraud, waste and abuse. In addition to an extensive consulting background, Ms. Scott served as director of Revenue Cycle for St. Luke’s Health System and Bend Memorial Clinic. As revenue cycle manager for the Department of Medicine at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), she provided oversight/optimization in an academic medical center setting. Previously, Ms. Scott was a business and compliance analyst for Kaiser Permanente’s Northwest Region, where she led collaboration with the laboratory, imaging, and pharmacy departments to identify and address potential regulatory exposure in the revenue cycle. As client-relations manager for Oregon Medical Laboratories (OML), a division of PeaceHealth, she oversaw the Portland-based laboratory outreach program, ran Patient Service Centers and provided educational/technical support to clinics and hospitals related to lab operations & billing. Ms. Scott received her B.S. in business management from Linfield College and her M.B.A. in health care administration from Western Governors University.
