Eli James Vonnegut

Eli J. Vonnegut is a partner in Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP’s Restructuring Group in New York. He represents creditors, debtors, agent banks, hedge funds, lenders, bondholders and other strategic parties in a range of corporate restructurings, financing transactions, bankruptcy litigation, asset sales and acquisitions, as well as advisory matters relating to investments in complex distressed businesses. He also advises numerous financial institutions, including all eight of the U.S.’s global systemically important banking groups (G-SIBs) and trade groups in connection with Dodd-Frank Resolution Planning. Mr. Vonnegut received Turnarounds & Workouts’ “Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyer” designation for 2017 and 2018, was honored in ABI’s 2018 class of “40 Under 40,” is listed in IFLR1000 as “Highly Regarded” for U.S. Restructuring and Insolvency in 2018, was named a Law360 “Rising Star” in Bankruptcy for 2017, and received the Turnaround Atlas Awards for “Cross-Border Turnaround of the Year” in 2017 for the restructuring of Pacific Exploration & Production. He received his B.A. with honors from the Wesleyan University College of Letters in 2003 and his J.D. cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 2007.
