<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Jay M. Goffman</strong> is co-founder and CEO of Smith Goffman Partners in New York and has been a leading restructuring attorney and advisor for over 40 years. He has received numerous awards for his turnaround work, primarily at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher &amp; Flom LLP, where he served as the longtime Global Head of Corporate Restructuring and a member of its Executive Committee. Prior to Skadden, he held positions at several other leading law firms, including as head of Restructuring at O’Sullivan Grael &amp; Karabell and as an associate at Weil, Gotshal &amp; Manges. Throughout his career, Mr. Goffman has led many significant restructurings, both in and out of court, and is widely recognized the inventor of the “prepackaged” restructuring. During his years at Skadden, he helped build the firm’s Corporate Restructuring Practice into one of the leading practices in the world and personally led dozens of major restructurings. He also represented numerous clients on M&amp;A, corporate finance and lending projects, often serving as a general advisor and unofficial outside general counsel to numerous clients. After retiring from Skadden, Mr. Goffman served as vice chairman of Rothschild &amp; Co. before moving on to become client chairman at Teneo Financial Advisory, where he continued his work as an corporate advisor and mentor to young professionals. He is a former ABI Board member and a member of the board of trustees of the China Institute. Mr. Goffman received his B.S. in 1980 in chemical psychobiology from the State University of New York at Binghamton and his J.D. in 1983 with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the <em>University of North Carolina Law Review</em>. In 2018, the University of North Carolina School of Law presented him with its Distinguished Alumni Award.</p>
