James P. Hughes
James P. Hughes, Jr. is a partner with Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP in Wilmington, Del., where he focuses his practice on business transactions, entity formation and governance, legal opinions, and mergers and acquisitions. He is a co-author of Deal Protection Devices (Bloomberg BNA — Corporate Practice Portfolio series) and a recognized authority on the workings and limitations of these often-disputed provisions. He updates the portfolio on a regular basis and discusses Delaware law in the context of transactional matters, assessing market trends and drawing on expert commentary from both<br>academics and journalists. Mr. Hughes was previously in-house counsel for a technology startup. He is admitted to practice in Delaware and Pennsylvania, and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He is a member of the American and Delaware State Bar Associations and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Corporate Law since 2013. Mr. Hughes received his B.A. summa cum laude from the University of Delaware, his M.S. from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, and his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
