Thomas W. Waldrep, Jr.

Hon. Thomas W. Waldrep, Jr. is one of the founders of Waldrep Wall Babcock & Bailey PLLC in Winston-Salem, N.C., where he practices business bankruptcy and regularly represents secured creditors, debtors, committees and trustees. Previously, he was a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Middle District of North Carolina. Judge Waldrep’s health care experience dates to the 1990s. He has served as debtor’s counsel and as chapter 11 trustee for numerous ALFs, SNFs and hospitals; litigated with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; and served as buyer’s counsel for the purchase of ALFs, SNFs and hospitals, both in and out of bankruptcy. While on the bench, Judge Waldrep presided over several cases involving ALFs, SNFs and home health care companies. In the last few years, he has been heavily involved in mass tort bankruptcies such as Purdue Pharma, Bestwall, Aldrich Pump, DBMP, and LTL. Judge Waldrep is a member of ABI, the National Association of Federal Equity Receivers and the Turnaround Management Association. He served the North Carolina Bar Association in several different capacities, including as chair of its Bankruptcy Section and as a member of its Board of Governors. Judge Waldrep is a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education seminars and law schools, and has written several law journal articles on insolvency issues. He received his B.A. from Purdue University in 1979 and his J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law in 1983, where he served as managing editor of the Indiana Law Journal.
