Elliot Freier

Elliot G. Freier is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Irell &amp; Manella LLP and head of the firm’s Tax group. His practice focuses on bankruptcy and workout taxation for debtors and creditors, taxation of merger and acquisition transactions, federal and California taxation of corporations, partnerships and individuals, and tax controversy representation. Mr. Freier has been recognized as a leading tax lawyer in Chambers USA every year since 2003 and by The Legal 500 US for both tax and tax controversy since 2007. He is also regularly selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, the Southern California “Super Lawyers” list by Los Angeles Magazine, and Who’s Who Legal. In addition to his work for<br>clients, Mr. Freier has authored several chapters in Collier on Bankruptcy Taxation and has been significantly involved in the American Bar Association’s Taxation Section, including previously serving as the chairman of the Task Force on Bankruptcy and Consolidated Return Issues. Mr. Freier also serves on the planning committee for the USC Tax Institute. He frequently speaks on bankruptcy tax issues, including lecturing to the Internal Revenue Service’s Office of Chief Counsel: Corporate. He also has spoken<br>at the Practicing Law Institute’s “Tax Strategies for Corporate Acquisitions, Dispositions, Financings,<br>Joint Ventures, Reorganizations and Restructurings” program. Other forums include the USC Tax Institute, ABA Taxation Section meetings and the Financial Lawyers Conference. Mr. Freier received his B.A. in economics, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Virginia his J.D. from Yale Law School.
