Shelly A. DeRousse

Shelly A. DeRousse is co-leader of the Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring Practice Group at Freeborn &amp; Peters LLP in Chicago, where her practice focuses on bankruptcy, restructuring, litigation and asset sales. She also has extensive creditors’ rights experience, including regularly representing official committees of unsecured creditors in chapter 11 cases throughout the U.S., as well as banks and other financial institutions in bankruptcy cases, out-of-court workouts of borrowers’ loans, and assignments for the benefit of creditors. She also represents companies and high-earning individuals in their bankruptcies or workout negotiations with their lenders and other creditors. Ms. DeRousse works every side<br>of bankruptcies and workouts, including the representation of debtors, secured creditors, unsecured creditors, lessors, lessees, guarantors, trustees and creditors’ committees. In addition, she has taught a law school course on secured transactions under Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code at DePaul University College of Law. Ms. DeRousse received her B.S. from Illinois State University and her J.D.<br>from DePaul University College of Law, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif; received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award and was an associate editor of the DePaul Law Review.
