Prentiss Cox

Prentiss Cox is a professor of law with the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he writes about and teaches in the area of consumer protection law, public civil law enforcement and le- gal practice skills. He was manager of the Consumer Enforcement Division in the Minnesota Attorney General's Office prior to joining the faculty in 2005 and was a judicial clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Prof. Cox has prosecuted numerous nationally recognized cases in- volving subprime mortgage lending, foreclosure, banking regulation, state attorney general enforcement authority, consumer fraud and related matters. He is a frequent speaker on consumer protection issues and is often quoted in media on consumer law topics. Prof. Cox has drafted and testified for numerous consumer protection statutes and rules related to mortgage lending, foreclosure fraud, telemarketing sales practices, private attorney general enforcement, and other consumer protection laws. He has also served as a trainer and consultant for state and federal government agencies and for developing nations. Prof. Cox is a member of the Consumer Advisory Board of the U. S. Consumer Financial Protection Bu- reau and the board of directors of the State Center for Antitrust and Consumer Protection Enforcement, among other activities. He has been selected as a Minnesota Super Lawyer and has received numerous university service and teaching awards. Prof. Cox received his B.A. from Oberlin College and his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School.
