Walter Shapero

Walter Shapero is a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan in Detroit, ap- pointed in July 1988. After clerking for a Michigan Supreme Court Justice, Judge Shapero entered pri- vate practice with Shapero, Shapero and Cohn, which merged to eventually become Butzel Long. He has served in a number of local community and national organizations, including the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation. He has also taught at the law schools of the University of Detroit Mercy Law School and Wayne State University Law School. Judge Shapero received his A.B. from the Univer- sity of Michigan in 1951 and his LL.B. in 1954 from the University of Virginia Law School, where he served as a member of the editorial board of the Virginia Law Review.
