Victor A. Vilaplana

Victor A. Vilaplana is Of Counsel and a litigation attoney with Foley & Lardner LLP in San Diego and a member of its Bankruptcy & Business Reorganizations and International Practices and Automotive Industry Team, for which he handles insolvency matters, particularly complicated business bankrupt- cies and international transactions, representing multiple industries in chapter 11 cases. Prior to joining Foley, Mr. Vilaplana was a shareholder with Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek and a managing partner of the San Diego office of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton. He is a frequent lecturer for the Califor- nia Continuing Education of the Bar, Practicing Law Institute, Law Education Institute and National In- stitute of Trial Advocacy on the topics of insolvency, UCC and various U.S./Mexico-related issues such as real estate ownership, commercial law, equipment leasing and debtor/creditor relations. He is also an         ALI-ABA lecturer on practice under BAPCPA. Mr. Vilaplana has authored articles on the administration of multinational bankruptcies and prepackaged chapter 11 plans of reorganization, and he is co-editor of Advanced Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Practice for the American Law Institute. Mr. Vilaplana is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Law Institute and the State Bar of California, is a Fellow with the American College of Bankruptcy and a delegate to UNCITRAL on various international insol- vency projects, and founding member of the International Insolvency Institute. He has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America every year since 1993 in the field of bankruptcy and creditor/debtor rights law. He was also selected for inclusion in the 2007-15 editions of San Diego Super Lawyers, which in 2013 ranked him as one of the top 50 lawyers in San Diego. He is also rated AV-Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Vilaplana received his B.A. with honors in 1968 from San Diego State University, his M.A. with highest honors in 1970 from George Washington University and his J.D. in 1973 from Stanford University.
