Susan N.K. Gummow

Susan N.K. Gummow is a shareholder at Foran Glennon Palandech Ponzi & Rudloff PC in Chicago and concentrates her practice in general commercial matters, including bankruptcy, insurance coverage and commercial litigation. Her experience includes representing insurers with regard to bankruptcies involving environmental, asbestos, sex abuse, mass tort, general liability, first-party property (e.g., complex mortgage and loss-payee issues, business interruption), financial lines, cyber/technology liability, professional liability and director & officer liability (including serving as monitoring counsel). She also advises insurers on deductibles and self-insured retentions, the rights of co-insureds and additional insureds, various settlement and release issues, successor liability issues, and the impact of bankruptcy filings on insurers. Ms. Gummow is the author of the Bankruptcy and Insurance Law Manual published by ABI, currently in its Fourth Edition. The Manual provides the basics of insurance law for the bankuptcy practitioner and the basics of the bankruptcy law for the insurance practitioner and can be ordered at store.abi.org. Ms. Gummow is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, ABI, the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance, the Professional Liability Underwriting Society and The LawyersClub of Chicago. She received her B.B.A. from Baylor University and her J.D. from Louisiana StateUniversity, and she completed the Mediation Skills Training Program at Northwestern University and the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law. She also studied international and constitutional law under the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist at the Universite deProvence Aix-Marseilles in Aix-en-Provence, France.
