Sidney B. Brooks
Hon. Sidney B. Brooks is a retired U.S. Bankruptcy Judge, initially appointed on Jan. 4, 1988, for the District of Colorado in Denver. He served as Chief Judge from February 2003 to January2007. Judge Brooks lectures, teaches courses, conducts seminars and writes for numerous professional organizations, schools and publications. He has been assisting with the development of judicial training and court-management programs on behalf of various government and nongovernment organizations, including the U.S. Russia Foundation, the Library of Congress’s Open WorldLeadership Program, the Central and East European Law Initiative, the International Judicial Relations Committee of the U.S. Judicial Conference, the U.S. Department of State and The WorldBank. He has also worked with and advised judicial officials from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrghistan, Mongolia, the People’s Republic of China, Poland, Romania, Macedonia, Thailand, Mexico, India,Canada, Armenia, Egypt, Brazil, Argentina and the Czech Republic with regard to international and commercial and insolvency law, as well as court administration and judicial affairs. JudgeBrooks has been a member of or served as an officer or board member of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, Rotary Club of Denver, Nanda Center for International and ComparativeLaw, Denver Committee on Foreign Relations, ABI and the U.S. Russia Foundation. He previously served as assistant attorney general for Colorado and was in private practice for 16 years, focusing on bankruptcy and reorganizations, litigation, commercial transactions and general business law.Judge Brooks received his J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law.
