Shelley White is a partner in the Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, office of Walkers Global in its In-solvency & Dispute Resolution department. She specialises in insolvency as well as trusts and commercial litigation. Having practiced at the Chancery Commercial Bar in London from 2003 until 2010,Ms. White is a specialist advocate and represents clients in court at all levels. She has acted in some ofthe most significant Cayman Islands liquidations of the last 15 years, including Bear Stearns, Sphinx,Madoff, Saad Investments and Singularis. She has also acted in some of the most high-profile litigation in the islands and up to the Privy Council, from Pugachev to Abraaj and from Al Sadik v. Invest corp to AHAB v. Al Sanea and others. Ms. White has represented the official liquidators of 11 Saad entities since 2010 both in respect of their liquidations and related litigation, including the successful defeat the claims brought against them in both the year-long trial of the AHAB proceedings in the Grand Court in 2016-17 and the five-week appeal that followed in the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal in 2018.Her work in contentious insolvency matters focuses on large-scale liquidations with international elements and cross-border issues, particularly in respect of the U.K., U.S., Middle East and Asia. She has contested applications to restrain the presentation of winding-up petitions, recognition of foreign representatives, permission to issue proceedings against insolvent companies, Berkeley Applegate relief and debt-adjudication appeals, as well as disputed liquidator/receiver costs and liquidation reserve matters.Ms. White has particular experience in applications under sections 101 and 103 of the Companies Act and representing companies working in natural resources, hedge funds and limited partnerships in con-tested winding-up proceedings. Legal 500 has named her a Leading Individual. Ms. White is an editor of both INSOL World and the STEP Trust Quarterly Review. She received her B.A. and M.A. (Oxon) in jurisprudence and distinction on BCL from St. Peter’s College in Oxford.
