Robert J. van Galen is a partner with NautaDutilh N.V. in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and heads the firm’s Insolvency and Restructuring Group. He specializes in insolvency law with an emphasis on cross-border issues and has been involved in virtually all major cases in the Netherlands over the past 25 years, such as Barings, Fokker, GTS, KPNQwest, Lehman, Yukos and OSX. Mr. van Galen is admitted to the bar of the Dutch Supreme Court and has been involved in a number of important cases decided by the Dutch Supreme Court. He is a past president of INSOL Europe and past president of the Dutch association of insolvency lawyers, INSOLAD. He is also the Dutch rep- resentative to UNCITRAL Working Group V and a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, as well as the president of the Amsterdam lawyers society. Mr. van Galen is a former president of the European Association of Insolvency Practitioners, INSOL Europe and the Dutch association of insolvency lawyers, INSOLAD. He has published a substantial number of articles in legal journals and contributions to legal books. In addition, he co-authored a report on cross-border insolvency law to the Netherlands Association for International Law (NVRI) and authored a report on groups of companies for the Netherlands Association for Comparative and International Insolvency Law (NACIIL). He is also a member of the editing board of the Dutch leading magazine on corporate law. Mr. van Galen graduated from the University of Amsterdam in 1984.
