Robert J. Henkel, FACHE retired on June 30, 2017, as president and CEO of Ascension Healthcare in St. Louis, Mo., after 25 years of service. During that time, he served in a number of different roles including president of Healthcare Operations and COO at Ascension Health, and president of the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic States Operating Group at Ascension Health. Mr. Henkel has held executive positions with numerous other health care organizations as well, including the Daughters of Charity National Health System in St. Louis, Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Fla., SSM Health Care<br>in St. Louis and Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, N.Y. He is a past board chair of the Catholic Health Association of the United States and served as a member of its executive committee and board; he also is a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Executive Council for the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, D.C. In addition, he is a University of Pittsburgh Legacy Laureate. Mr. Henkel received his Bachelor’s degree in economics from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., and his Master’s degree in public health from the University of Pittsburgh, where he<br>serves as an adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Public Health.
