John Piggins

John T. Piggins is a member of Miller, Johnson, Snell &amp; Cummiskey, P.L.C. in Grand Rapids, Mich., and chairs its Bankruptcy - Creditors’/Debtors’ Rights practice group. He has been practicing law since 1982 and specializes in representing creditors, trustees and debtors in all types of bankruptcy-related matters. Mr. Piggins has also assisted numerous business entities in matters related to commercial contracts, real estate, business organization and mortgage banking. He represents creditors’ committees in chapter 11 cases and represents business and individual debtors in chapter 7, 11, 12 and 13 bankruptcy matters, as well as out-of-court workouts. Mr. Piggins has assisted many financial institutions and other commercial lenders in analyzing and protecting their rights in bankruptcy and nonbankruptcy matters through nego-<br>tiations, court proceedings and debtor asset liquidation. Additionally, he represents bankruptcy trustees in their attempts to recover and liquidate bankruptcy estate assets. Mr. Piggins has worked as a chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Michigan and has guided financial institutions, businesses and individuals through the negotiation and drafting of contracts supporting all types of commercial transactions, including contracts for the purchase and sale of businesses<br>and business assets, employment agreements, vendor agreements, financing agreements, business management agreements and others. He has been responsible for negotiating and drafting all contracts necessary to evidence the commercial transactions between a nationwide mortgage lender and its largest vendors and financiers. Mr. Piggins has represented buyers, sellers, lessees and lessors of commercial and residential real estate throughout Michigan, and has represented creditors and debtors in construction lien, foreclosure and forfeiture matters. He has also been responsible for all aspects of negotiating and drafting commercial real estate leases for a tenant with more than 40 offices throughout the U.S.,<br>and he has assisted clients with the legal aspects of forming, operating and dissolving business entities.<br>Mr. Piggins is a member and former treasurer of the Bankruptcy Steering Committee for the Federal<br>Bar Association of the Western District of Michigan. He also is a member of ABI, the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, the Michigan Bar Association’s Real Property and Business Law Sections, the Grand Rapids Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Mr. Piggins is listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Banking Law, and for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law. He is also recognized in Super Lawyers for Bankruptcy &amp; Creditor/Debtor Rights, and he has presented at numerous seminars in the areas of commercial, collection and bankruptcy law. Mr. Piggins received his undergraduate degree in business from Michigan State University in 1979 and his J.D. in 1982 from Wayne State University Law School in Detroit.
