James Durham

James Durham is chief marketing and business development officer at Littler Mendelson P.C. in Bos- ton, where he is responsible for helping attract, grow and retain clients through innovative sales and service strategies. As an authority on law firm marketing and business development for nearly 25 years, he has participated in every aspect of the legal business. After practicing business law for 10 years, in- cluding several years as a bankruptcy lawyer, Mr. Durham started the Law Firm Development Group, where he worked with hundreds of law firms as a consultant and trainer. He has interviewed hundreds of law firm clients to determine how they select lawyers, and what they expect from their lawyers, and has spoken at dozens of retreats, webinars and conferences. Previously, Mr. Durham was general coun- sel and VP of marketing for Senior Tour Players, Inc., where he represented Sam Snead, Gene Sarazen and Kathy Whitworth, among other well-known professional golfers. He also served as the SVP of sponsorship and affiliate relations for MLB.com in its formative years. In 2010, he was inducted into the Legal Marketing Association Hall of Fame. Mr. Durham is the author of The Essential Little Book of Great Lawyering, and co-editor of the American Bar Association's book The Lawyer's Guide to Market- ing Your Practice, Second Edition. He also wrote a novel entitled My Father's Writings, published by Balboa Press. Mr. Durham received his B.A. in 1977 from Harvard College and his J.D. in 1983 from Emory University School of Law.
