Gary Friedland
Prof. Gary Friedland is a Scholar-in-Residence at the NYU Stern School of Business in New York and affiliated with Stern’s Center for Real Estate Finance Research and Stern’s Business & Society Program. He teaches the Real Estate Transactions course, both in the undergraduate and M.B.A. program, which focuses on the legal, tax and financial aspects of commercial real estate transactions. Prof. Friedland has written extensively on the EB-5 immigration investment program. On April 13, 2016, he testified at a hearing before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on “The Distortion of EB-5 Targeted Employment Areas: Time to End the Abuse.” From 1978-85, Prof. Friedland practiced law at law firms in Washing-<br>ton, D.C., and Beverly Hills, Calif., specializing in corporate, real estate and tax matters. From 1986-2010, he built and developed residential real estate projects in the New York metropolitan area. From 1996-2005, Prof. Friedland served as director of acquisitions at various real estate companies controlled by Carl Icahn, and was a consultant from 2006-10. From 2008-12, he served as consultant for the Com-<br>munity Preservation Corp.’s rezoning of the Domino Sugar Factory in Williamsburg, N.Y., and the re-development of the historic Hudson River Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Prof. Friedland is licensed to practice in New York and California. He received his B.S. magna cum laude in accounting from the State University of New York at Binghamton and his J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center Law licenses.
