Eric (Rick) S. Rein
Eric S. Rein is a partner at HMB Legal Counsel in Chicago and a member of its Litigation Group. He concentrates his practice on secured creditors’ rights, bankruptcy representation, loan enforcement and international litigation to recover claims and assets. Mr. Rein regularly advises financial institutions, hedge funds, privately held companies, bankruptcy trustees, receivers, nonbank lenders and high-net-worth individuals on a broad range of workout, restructuring and transactional matters. He also helps secured creditors recover pledged collateral through Uniform Commercial Code sales and commercial mortgage foreclosures, and prosecutes claims based on fraud, nonperforming loans and intercreditor disputes. Additionally, he defends creditors against third-party claims when asserted. Mr. Rein frequently serves as special counsel to corporations, individuals and their advisors as they navigate complex inter-national banking and fraud matters. His pioneering status as the first U.S. Attorney to employ the MutualLegal Assistance Treaty in Uruguay, obtain Norwich Pharmacal relief in Vancouver, B.C., and enforce consent directives in bankruptcy court in the state of Washington make him a sought-after media expert on international asset recovery. He has handled complex international banking and fraud matters in more than 40 jurisdictions throughout North and South America, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and Europe. Mr.Rein has been interviewed by the Associated Press, Bloomberg News, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes,“CNNMoney,” First Business, Lawyer Monthly (which named him Asset Recovery Lawyer of the Year in 2014) and various industry trade publications. He also has authored several articles about the nuances of international litigation for such legal publications as the ABI Law Review, New York Law Journal,Banking Law Journal and Latin American Law and Business Report.
